Dear Friend of Hastings Philharmonic Choir
Warm seasons greetings to all of our friends and supporters!
First of all, we must report that our autumn concert on 9th November was a huge success! Thank you all for your fantastic support! We were completely sold out for the second time this year, and had some very enthusiastic and appreciative comments afterwards from audience members. This kind of response is so encouraging for us and spurs us on to bring you more wonderful concerts in the new year. If you'd like to see Peter Mould's captivating photos of the concert, you can find them via our website.
With Christmas coming, our next offering will, of course, be our annual Carols for All concert, which you can read more about below.

'O Magnum Mysterium' - 'O great mystery, and wondrous sacrament, that animals should see the new-born Lord, lying in their manger!'
Come and hear us sing Morten Lauridsen's meltingly beautiful setting of this medieval nativity hymn, along with Benjamin Britten's tender 'Hymn to the Virgin', William Mathias' rollicking 'Wassail Carol' and other Christmas delights both old and new. Join in singing all your favourite carols, and some less well-known ones, too!
This year we are delighted that children from Ore Village Primary Academy will be taking part in our concert.

Save the dates for our 2025 spring and summer concerts!
Our spring concert on 5 April 2025 will feature a single work, Dvořák's Stabat Mater. This setting of the famous Christian poem portraying Mary's feelings as she watches her son dying on the cross is deeply personal, being closely bound up with Dvořák's own grief over the deaths of his children. Yet it ends in hope, with a radiant vision of paradise breaking through the darkness in the final movement.
On 5 July we'll be bringing you something very different: Northern Lights, a programme of luminous choral works by two great living composers, Arvo Pärt and Ola Gjeilo.
We're delighted that Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra can accompany us for both concerts.

The choir runs a number of fundraising activities throughout the year. These are mostly aimed at our own members and include keeping a small stock of useful stationery and clothing suitable for concerts, bring and buy sales, seasonal raffles and other ad hoc events. Last summer's garden party was a great success that we plan to repeat in 2025.
Last season we also introduced raffles, with tickets on sale to both audience and choir members, at two of our concerts: the Carols for All and the Summer Concert. These were so well received that we're aiming to do the same this year. So please come prepared with some spare cash when you attend our upcoming concerts. There'll be prizes of Christmas goodies on 14th December, Easter eggs on 5th April and summery items on 5th July.
Your support for the choir is very much appreciated and helps us to continue to bring you top quality peformances of large-scale choral classics in a local venue!
And if you're unable to attend one of our concerts but would still like to support us with a donation, please visit our website: www.hastingsphilchoir.org.uk/donate
